Wearing your hair back tight every day can cause bald spots...

TRUE  Daily tension on the hair such as braids or tight ponytails, can cause tract alopecia, a form of hair loss that can be prevented by avoiding these stressful styles. Instead, opt for loose or low ponytails and headbands to keep your hair away from your face.

If you use the same shampoo daily, it will eventually stop working...

FALSE  Sometimes it does seem as if your shampoo is no longer working for you as well as it first did when you began using it. However it really does not. Temporary Hair Loss

Keeping your hair healthy in the summer

In Arizona, today may be the start of Spring, but summer is already upon us. The heat, the sun and the occasional swim in a chlorinated pool, could wreak havoc with your hair.  Below are some steps we recommend you follow, to keep your hair healthy all Spring and summer long. 

*Keep your hair hydrated.  The sun and the chlorine, could definitely take their toll on your hair. Keeping your hair moisturized is key. Preventing damage to your hair

Hot tools, over processing with chemicals, over coloring, the list can go on and on but the effects that these things have on our hair can be devastating. Breakage, dryness and worst of all hair loss are all the end result of hair damage. So, what steps can we take to stop this vicious cycle?

1. Avoid washing your hair every day with shampoo. For those of us with dry hair this an easy task, but for those of us with an oily scalp it may seem more difficult. If  you are one of millions who have an oily scalp, you can avoid using shampoo by simply rinsing your scalp with water.  Doing this,  will remove some of the oils.  In both cases, using shampoo of a minimum of every other day will be much healthier for your hair.
2. Use a shampoo that contains a lot of natural ingredients and not a lot of chemicals.  Chemicals can dry out your hair, causing you to lose the essential oils which in turn can cause breakage and hair loss. 
3. Limit your use of hot tools.  Blow drying and using a flat iron on a daily basis, can also cause your hair to dry out and break. Using hot tools once or even twice a week should be the only time that your hair comes in contact with these. 
4. Eat a healthy diet.  Fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and protein should be the basis of your diet and of course eating these or anything else you eat should be done so in moderation.  Starting from the inside out, is one important way to keep your hair healthy too. 
5. Color and use chemical treatments sparingly.  Constantly coloring or using chemicals on your hair will cause your hair to weaken and will cause hair breakage and loss.
