Hair Products

Picking the right hair products, can be so overwhelming. You walk down the aisle of your favorite drug store, beauty supply or even at your salon, and there are so many choices to be made.

Whether you are looking for more volume or to keep those fly aways in check, the answer to everyone's product dilemma should be less is really more. If you are using too many products the end result may be less than desirable.  Sticking to the basics, shampoo, conditioner, styling product and hairspray are really all that you need.  If you use other products you may be wasting your money, your time and actually ending up with a look that you never wanted in the first place.

At Donte's of New York, we love the Sudzz FX line. This line of products gives you everything you need and provides a beautiful look without the build up.  Find out how you too can get your styling needs in check by calling Donte's of New York today at 480-483-8800 or visit us on the web at:  www.dontes.com

Color too dark? Here's what to do...

Here's a quick tip...if you just left your Stylist and feel your color is darker than you expected, one easy and not very expensive way to remedy this is to use a dish soap on your hair. Yes, you read right, a dish soap. It has ingredients in it that will strip away the color and lighten your locks in no time. Just use it as you would a regular shampoo and you will see a big difference in no time.

Getting the most out of your color

Do you see one gray and think, "Uh-oh, it's time for my hair to be colored?"  Well, think again, you might actually be doing more harm then good by coloring your hair at the first sign of some grays.  Ideally, you should be getting your hair colored every 6-8 weeks.  Any sooner than that, can cause breakage and potentially hair loss.  There are a few steps you can take to help your color last longer.  One of the best ways to keep your hair color looking vibrant is by washing your hair less and when you do wash your hair, use a shampoo that is made specifically for color treated hair. We love the Sudzz FX line of shampoos as they are meant to prolong your color and not wash it out.  Another way to keep the grays at bay, is to use a color wand or spray. We offer these options to our clients all of the time and they love it. It is a quick and easy fix to mask those grays while saving you a few dollars by not having to get as many color services each year.  Finally if you are a woman, you can style your hair differently to cover up the grays. Pull your hair back into a cute ponytail or barrette, and make hiding the grays a fun experience.

How often should you wash your hair?

How often should you wash your hair?  Most people would say, they wash their hair daily but washing your hair daily actually can do more harm than good.  Unless you have extremely oily hair, over washing your hair may actually strip it of the oils that keep your hair looking shiny and healthy.

On average washing your hair 3 times a week for those with oily hair and less than that for those with dry hair is really the routine we should follow.  Not only does less washing help to sustain the natural oils but it also prevents the over use of hot tools and blow dryers, which can dry out and damage your hair.

If you just don't feel right skipping your daily washes, rinsing your hair with water only and applying a conditioner to the ends may be the next best thing.

Vitamin deficiency and hair loss

Hair loss can stem from a variety of sources but one that is very common is a lack of proper vitamins and minerals.  A low vitamin D level and a low level of iron can be linked to thinning hair.  If you are experiencing thinning hair and don't know why, we recommend making an appointment to see your general physician who can rule out the possibility of hair loss from a vitamin deficiency.

Donte's of New York is a leader in helping you get back the hair you love.  Visit our website today at:  www.dontes.com or call us today for your FREE consultation, so we can help you. Hair loss can be devastating, we are here to help, 480-483-8800.
