Taking care of your hair

So you've shampooed and conditioned your hair and it is now squeaky clean, but when is the right time to begin using heat to style it?

Did you know that blow drying and brushing dripping wet hair is not to your hair's best advantage?  It's true, soaking wet hair is a lot harder to dry and because it is wet it is more elastic, meaning it stretches more, which means that brushing or combing through wet hair can cause breakage.

So when does it make sense to apply the heat?  Let your hair air dry a bit and when it is about 80% dry is the best time to really start styling it.

Summer and your hair

The summer sun can wreck havoc on your hair, the following are some tips we recommend to keep your hair protected in the heat of the summer.

Pool time:  Pool water contains chlorine, chlorine is a chemical and can leave your hair feeling very dry not to mention if you have blonde hair, it can change the color to a greenish color too.  Wearing a swim cap is a great option,  but something we always recommend to our customers to do is to spray some of the 444 conditioning spray onto your hair prior to going into the pool.  Once your pool time is done we also suggest washing your hair with shampoo as soon as you can and spraying more of the 444 spray before drying your hair.

Avoid the burn:  Unfortunately many people forget that your scalp can get burned just as much as any other part of your skin can.  Spray on sunscreen in the scalp area is highly recommended as is wearing a hat to protect this delicate area.

Keep your hair hydrated:  In the summer you sweat more, sweat is salt and salt dries out your hair.  In addition the summer sun is very strong and will also cause hair to dry out.  We recommend keeping your hair well hydrated in the summer by using a hydrating wash out conditioner such as the Sudzz FX Moxee as well as using a great leave in conditioner with an SPF such as the Qshi leave in conditioner.  In a pinch spraying water onto your hair a few times a day can also provide you with the moisture your hair needs.
