Ways to insure that your hair replacement/hair extensions look the most natural

When deciding on purchasing a hair addition, there are some important things to keep in mind, color of course is one of the first things.  If the color does not match, a natural look will be very hard to accomplish. Secondly,  length is a very important thing to discuss,  because you want to make sure the hair lays where you like it. Finally density should be a high priority on your list because if the hair is too thick or too thin, then once again you will loose the natural look you are after.  When you have had hair loss, it is sometimes difficult to determine the right density for you.  If you are like most people the loss of hair makes you want a lot more of it. Of course,  having a lot of hair is not something that most people have to begin with, so, if you want to get back to looking as you did before your hair loss began then you want to be sure to select a realistic density.  One that first of all you can be happy with, one that you can handle and most important looks natural on you.  As time progresses and you become more comfortable with your hair addition you may decide to add length or even more density but it is recommended to start out conservatively until the whole process of wearing hair becomes comfortable to you.  There are of course those of us who don't mind if others know they have a hair addition, if that is you, then by all means select what you want, but keep in mind, that a lot of hair does mean a lot more work.

Aging Hair

As we age, so does our hair.  It may turn gray, while at the same time the texture may become brittle and may have a tendency to break more easily.  Hair in a lot of cases will also thin out and hair loss becomes more apparent as the aging process continues in life.  For most people, our hair begins to change as early as when we are in our mid 30's.  Using chemical treatments, over processing hair with color and the use of hot tools does not help aging hair.  What can you do to keep your hair healthy as you inevitably age?  Below are some steps we recommend you take to keep your hair looking beautiful even as the years go by.

  1. Eat healthy-a diet that is rich in protein, omega oils and calcium will allow your hair to be strong and shine. If you are not a fan of foods that contain protein, omega oils and calcium, then be sure to supplement your diet with vitamins.  You will also want to consider taking vitamins that contain biotin, vitamins E, C & A as well as Zinc.
  2. If you are already experiencing the effects of older hair-breakage, hair loss, etc.. be sure to visit your stylist every 6-8 weeks to insure that your hair is being properly maintained.
  3. When your hair is wet, it is best not to brush it.  Wet hair is more elastic and prone to breakage.  Always brush your hair prior to showering and either let it air dry or dry it with a hair dryer until it is about 85% dry. At that point, it is safe to use a brush to style your hair.
  4. For Women, wearing a tight bun or ponytail on a daily basis, can cause hair loss, also known as Tract Alopecia. If you enjoy wearing your hair in these styles, try placing the bun or ponytail in different positions or alternate your look by wearing your hair down one day and up the next.
  5. Daily use of hot tools such as curling irons, rollers, or flat irons are not recommended. Try skipping a day or more in between. Hot tools dry out the hair, causing the hair to become brittle and break.
  6. Use products such as the IHI Hair Support Line. This line of products was scientifically manufactured to help stop hair loss.  With the use of their Home Treatment System, which consists of a shampoo, conditioner and overnight treatment, you will see beautiful results. We recommend this product to all of our customers and we have a hard time keeping it on our shelves. It really works and provides hair growth in a short period of time.

Primary cause of male pattern hair loss

The primary reasons for male pattern hair loss are composed of three factors, genetics, age and hormones.  It is common for about 1/3 of all men to experience some form of hair loss by the age of 45.  DHT, (dihydrotestosterone) is what causes hair loss.  The hair follicles are shrunk by DHT which, makes the hair finer and finer until eventually it stops growing altogether.  If hair loss is in your genes primarily on your mother's side, that too could be a reason for your loss of hair.

If you have experienced or are just starting to have signs of hair loss, Donte's of New York is here to help. We are a full service non-surgical,  hair loss treatment center for both Men and Women. How to prevent frizzy hair

Who likes frizzy hair?  Most people would say smooth hair looks so much better.  Unruly hair effects all of us at one time or another, but what can we do to prevent it or get rid of it?  Below are some steps to follow to get rid of frizz:

  • Always use a frizz fighter that is made for your hair type:  for fine or medium hair, serums work well while creams  or oils are ideal for thick hair. We highly recommend for all hair types Sudzz Fx, Zenyth. This products works great as a serum or oil providing, shiny, beautiful results.   If your  hair is curly a leave in conditioner such as, 444 spray works wonders.
  • Use your anti-frizz product on damp hair:  It is best to use a small dime sized amount of your frizz fighter and be sure to distribute it evenly throughout your hair. Believe it or not, overuse of a serum could actually produce knots in your hair, so stick to the dime sized amount for best results.
  • Air-drying is great:  We always recommend that our clients brush their hair out really good prior to washing their hair. This prevents breakage, as when the hair is wet it is most elastic and has a tendency to snap and break.  If you have some tangling when you do come out of the shower only use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to remove the tangles.  The less you touch your hair when it is drying the less frizz you will see.
  • Blow drying is fine too:  If you want to blow dry your hair, it is best to apply a serum, cream or oil and let the drying begin.  Using the nozzle attachment on your blower is always great as it prevents the high heat of the hair dryer to hit the hair as much. If you have wavy or curly  hair, using a diffuser will produce the best non-frizzy results.
  • Hair should be dry throughout:  Wet or damp hair has a tendency to frizz when touched so make sure your hair is completely dry before going out.
Follwing these tips should help you maintain a beautiful, frizz free head of hair that everyone will admire.
