Type:  Boars hair bristle brush

Best used for:  All hair types and may be used on a daily basis.  The great thing about boar bristle brushes is that they do a great job of moving the natural oils around the hair, which leaves the hair shiny and healthy. These are the brushes we recommend for our hair extension customers as they allow you to brush your hair without pulling out the extensions.

Not good for:  Blow Drying your hair if the base is rubber. If the base is wood then these are a great option to use.

Type:  Vent brush

Best used for:  People with shorter hair lengths.  Great to use with or without a hair dryer as these brushes provide volume.

Not good for:  Long hair-particularly wavy or curly hair.  The bristles do not grip the hair well enough to smooth the cuticle. 

Type:  Round nylon bristle brush with a ceramic base

Best used for:  Volume as the round shape lifts hair at the roots and the ceramic base is safer for your hair then a metal one which can heat up and burn the hair. 

Not good for:  Short hair as it does not allow for a flattering look.

Type:  Round boars hair bristle brush with a wood base

Best used for:  Straightening thick, curly or wavy hair. 

Not good for:  People who are not comfortable using a round brush. The bristles are thick, which can cause hair to get tangled in the brush if not properly used.

In honor of breast cancer awareness month: What you need to know about breast cancer

Ages 20-39: A breast exam with a doctor every 1-3 years and self examination is always encouraged.

Ages 40 & over:  Annual exam with doctor and screening mammography.

Ages 65-70:  Some people believe that mammography's are not necessary after the ages of 65-70 but several cancer societies do recommend that women of these age groups continue screens.

Alopecia

When should you use heat to style your hair?

Men's hair loss

How to keep hair healthy when applying heat

The use of hot tools over time on your hair can cause major damage.  Using a hair dryer, curling iron or flat iron on a daily basis, can cause your hair's cuticle to really dry out and frizz.  Over time, the dryness will cause your hair to break.  Below are the steps that we at Donte's of New York recommend to our clients.

• After washing your hair, it is important you pat dry your hair, do not rub. Rubbing will cause friction and breakage.
• After exiting the shower, it is important to apply a frizz eliminator such as Zenyth by Sudzz FX.
